Ideally, choose the largest space possible, but anything from a spare bedroom, to a basement, to a garage should suffice. Next, ensure you’re choosing the right gear for both your workout space and your own personal workout goals. While smaller exercise accessories like yoga mats, resistance bands and kettlebells don’t require much room, an elliptical machine or squat rack certainly are quite large, and also need proper airflow and ventilation. When it comes to the construction features of your workout space, proper flooring material is key. Ideally, your home gym should have dedicated gym flooring for exercising on, with the most common materials being foam, vinyl and rubber.
